Talking to Gang at YM was perfect timing. It's easy to be apathetic these days, and not care because I really can puke at the actions of our government officials. There's a huge part of me that doesn't want to comment about the things that are happening. Ayoko na! I really don't want to care. But damn do I care!
The conversation started out as "worklike" trying to establish linking RockEd with Ehem, etc. But we had fun thinking about what life would be if we simply didn't care; if we just migrate, if we could turn back time.
I'll marry Prince William.
Gang: alam mo, susuportahan kita dyan sa bid mo to marry Prince William. That's the Goal, Go Kang!
Kang: but will i really be able to sleep well at night knowing im ok, im great and all but that hundreds and thousands of my kababayans are living way below poverty line? are dying of hunger and the beasts in our government just keep on getting all the money and resources we have?
Gang:..the temptation to migrate is fantastic...haaaaay Kang...kung kakayanin ko lang, tulad nung sinasabi mo na matulog ng mahimbing sa first world kong kama
Kang: kainis talaga yang mga Pari at Madre na kung ano anong pagmamahal sa bayan ang tinuro satin eh. i swear if magkakaanak man ako, if i do decide that i want kids
kasi now, i don't want kids..i swear di sila mag aaral sa mga Preferential Option for the Poor na yan! no Jesuit schools, no Nuns and Priests...dapat dun sa mga Sakim na school. hehehe
Gang: hahaha. ako, if I could turn back the clock..mag aaral ako sa Arts School
And our conversation also went to blaming our parents too for teaching us to be good and to care about others and the country; we also talked about wanting to just star in those makeover shows in the states and care only of our looks and the clothes we wear everyday, not if other people have something to eat or that the tax we are paying are being stolen by damn government officials.
We were, in short, dreaming! Nananaginip lang kasi at the end of the day - We cannot be apathetic; because we damn care - we are tired, we are angry, we are exhausted at the sight of mere politicians, not leaders but we still want things to change. We seek for the Truth and we Demand for it!
And in the light of Lozada's coming out and people saying he's a hero - I go back to the idea of EHEMPLO when I was working for Ehem. To tell the truth, to help out the country and bring forth positive change is Everyone's Responsibility. It is not Heroic, what he is doing is Just because he is telling the "truth" (i hope he is) but he's no Hero. But he can be an EHEMPLO. He's not perfect, he's done bad things in the past, but if he wants to change and wants to help bring forth change, then he is being a Good Example.
Iniisip ko, at the end of each day, it might be good to ask ourselves - Paano ba ako naging mabuting tao ngayong araw na ito? Sang bagay ako naging Ehemplo sa iba? Sang bagay ako dapat magbago?
---
PS - salamat sa pag-uusap sa Gang, I know you were asking for opinion and help when you first talked to me sa YM, but I actually needed that conversation. you helped me din.
true! true! :D
ReplyDeleteand i wish, si Marcos na lang ang naging presidente natin. kahit corrupt and rigid in his "latest" stage, at least, our country was so progressive and better than any ASEAN country. pesteng People Power na yan. it just, on the bad side, produced tons of "democrazies" who all wanted to lead!
o well, andito na tayo e. we were born here, so we make the most of our contribution to develop our land.
mabuhay pa rin ang Pilipinas. we still are the happiest people in the world!! and that is the greatest thing i (WE) can be proud of.
-- naging presidente nga natin sya... and what an oppressive time that was. Consult history books again.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't wish that again on our country..
....and when you said "kahit na corrupt and rigid (si Marcos) in his "latest" stage, at least our country was progressive" bothers me, because that is still unacceptable.
In any stage, corruption in government is unacceptable.
I'm sure you meant something else... I agree, however, with everything else you implied that we wasted the opportunity presented to us by EDSA...
hay...i was just chatting with eric about what's been going on there. nakakainis! i'm thinking of renewing my abs-cbn now subscription para subaybayan ang balita. pero nagdadalawang isip ako dahil baka masayang lang ang oras ko...na minsan kulang pa para matapos ang kailangan basahin for school. sabay baka kumulot nang di oras ang buhok ko sa asar.
ReplyDeleteand you're right...we all have to do our share. kaya ikaw, galingan mo sa london at gagalingan ko ang aral dito sa new york. yahoo!
Stealing, Corruption is NO Joke, Shouldn't be a joke and isn't something to be happy about.
ReplyDeleteWe have to muster a healthy kind of Unhappiness that would move us to work toward becoming really Happy. And not just superficial happiness, but genuine happiness. Yung sayang nakakapagpalaya; yung sayang di makasarili at di panandalian.
Corruption is NEVER acceptable.
ReplyDeletePero peace naman tayo lahat dito. I'm sure if magkakilala kayo ni Pyke, you'll have lots of great conversations din Gang.
At 3 cause ang forever akong tutulong at kikilos for 1) Environment 2) Anticorruption and 3) Education. :)
ReplyDeleteya, i definitely agree "that time" was really oppressive, which kang and i HAVE NOT experienced. kaya i ended up saying so relaxed of marcos. i could have said similar to yours if i was born earlier but another thought was really WEIRD after a number of our "senior citizens" i talked with seem to favor marcos over his successors and even before him...despite the martial law. o well, baka ibang marcos yun hehehe
ReplyDeleteand yes! i too agree with corruption as unacceptable. it is a such a gross practice (may God, or least karma, forbid them). but i think we cant find anymore leaders of good moral standing who is interested in running public office. we might find one in very rare chances BUT they are just too small to unseat "big crocs". but then again, we do have real experiences on these "ordinary" people rising to limelight politics and public leadership. to name a few, si Way Kurat of Compostela Valley, Mindanao. Cory Aquino counts too.
the big question now is, if by chance you knew 1 good leader, WHY CANT HE/SHE BE OUR LEADER/BRGY CAPTAIN/MAYOR/CONGRESSMAN/SENATOR/PRESIDENT? could be lack of interest. if he/she attempted election, WHY DID HE/SHE LOST THE ELECTION? could be us (the voters) and the election system.
our electoral process and all other systems are just darn gross like most of our politicians. to them, i have my hats off. what remains is US, the voters....the last hope of the country. We, just like the systems, also have some serious issues. what more, majority of us are also traditional voters, voting for traditional leaders. and that is the most unacceptable truth. so, it is really hopeless.
but then it is never hopeless! so, organizations like RockEd (gusto ko talaga volunteer, Gang) and other sorts are born. 1 baby step to another, these "real progressive groups" are doing what needs to be done. and i have no single problem about them! BUT these "real progressive" efforts are not "stand-alone" efforts. we also need to "familiarize and play" some "wicked" efforts to finally outplay these wicked practices..in the future. we all know this "experience-based" knowledge, right?
so, as much as we hate corruption, we still have to "accept" it...momentarily and play along with the "lesser evils". i believe Lozada and Neri's practices of "moderating the greed" is one of those hopeful good results from "playing along the game". im definitely not though calling everyone to "practice" corruption -whether moderate or small - but we have to accept it. i believe, our country would all be STUCK in 1 point if we only play 1 strategy (u know this management strategy, i guess).
maybe, ur shrieking with gigil now but "accepting" corruption isnt at all synonymous to not tolerating corruption. in depth, for a practical nationalist, accepting is playing the dirty fields to achieve a fair win against the big crocs.
i have written something on this latest bombshell on NBN-ZTE but it has been in my storage for several days na. like most people (hoping they do), im also mad on everything that is going on. KAINIS! it is because such stuff, the systemic corruption has been there even before this GMA administration but i can say that this is the worst ever!
ReplyDeleteAnd then what? What more Truth has been kept hidden? Maybe there are plenty of those kept under the guise of being 'HONORABLE'. It is so unfair that millions of Filipinos are living in dire poverty and only few "HONORABLEs" are reaping the harvest and living the life of the rich and mighty. No wonder more are Filipinos are leaving this country of misery. Im not saying that all of them in that two chambers as well as in palace are guilty of such. But hell meeeen! Even Joker has been implicated in this big joke! I wont conclude if it has something to do with the surname coz i dont think its makatakod!
Seriously, this whole mess has effected in me a strong mistrust in this administration. I just couldnt accept that the Commissior who once head COMELEC, the agency mandated to guard our sacred vote, has been implicated in this corruption scam. WTF! I now wonder how those previous elections were conducted. This is not a late reaction! Some people may say that the obvious is there right in my very eyes!
Anyway, though these days the truth seemed to be caged and locked in the dark dungeon below the palace of the mighty, I surely believe what my mother said : "walay aso nga makumkom".
narealize ko lang.. geez pyke what a comment - sing haba ng Entry? hahaha. lighter side of life.
ReplyDeletehahaha oo nga noh. gigil sa gobyerno e hehe
